TRAVEL DATES:
July 17 – August 1, 2026
GENERAL INFO:
The Mercer On Mission program in Guaimaca, Honduras, focuses on providing physicals, hearing tests and vision screenings as well as health education for children based in Orphanage Emmanuel and health care to others in the surrounding community.

Meeting a Need

The Mercer On Mission program in Honduras directly addresses a critical gap in consistent, high‑quality health care for more than 200 children living at Orphanage Emmanuel, which recently lost its on‑site nursing staff and was left without regular medical oversight. By conducting full physicals, hearing tests, and vision screenings for every child and creating systems for annual assessments, this Mercer On Mission program ensures these children receive the preventive care they urgently need.

In addition, with continued community outreach clinics in nearby villages, this Mercer On Mission program meets the broader need for expanded access to health care in an underserved region. Through a combination of continuous remote support and recurring in‑person care, this program provides reliable, sustainable health care for children and families who otherwise have very limited access.

What You'll Do

  • During the Mercer On Mission program in Honduras, students will:

Provide health screenings and treat acute and chronic illness in underserved children at the orphanage and others from surrounding communities
  • Work with an interprofessional team
  • Educate children on general hygiene, sexual health and other education
  • Experience a vibrant and unique culture

Students will leave this experience changed for the better, excited for the future, and impressed by their own personal growth.
Dr. Lance Slade

We all worked together to provide medical assistance for 200-plus children at Orphanage Emmanuel and 400 patients in the community, delivering love, care and medicine. Not only that, we played, laughed, hung out, cooked, sang, studied and loved on all the kids and orphanage staff during that time.
