For over a decade, Mercer has partnered with the Peace Cathedral to serve people whose needs are not met by other sources. This is an internship open to all majors.
A variety of internship placements are available including:
The first case I worked on was about two young adults, 19 years old, who were being held in jail awaiting trial. They had been involved in a civil protest where a metal detector had been knocked over. They had already been in jail for two months. I provided research for the attorneys on U.S. and European laws, and I visited them in jail and attended their court hearings.
Students will register for nine hours of internship credit, which can be either POL 490 or an internship course from another department. The other department must agree to the course.
