TRACK I - MEDICAL SPANISH INTERPRETATION

Program Highlights

Under the supervision of Mercer Spanish Department faculty you will have the opportunity to serve the people of rural Honduras by providing medical Spanish interpretation for a team of Mercer medical, pharmacy, nursing and undergraduate students and faculty as they provide direct medical care in rural clinics. Upon arrival in Honduras you will be transported to Rancho el Paraíso in beautiful rural Agalta Valley. Working in partnership with Honduras Outreach International you will learn and develop your health care clinical and cultural skills by providing medical interpretation for those living in a medically underserved area. You will learn how culture, economics, governmental policies, and religious beliefs affect health outcomes. This program will provide the opportunity to practice and enhance your medical Spanish skills.

*****Students are required to attend two MANDATORY orientations prior to the beginning of the program.

Session I - one hour orientation:

Atlanta Campus, - Monday November 16, noon

Macon Campus –Wednesday, November 18, 5:30 pm

Savannah Campus –Thursday, November 19, 5:30 pm

Columbus Campus –TBD

Session II –All Day Orientation in Macon

Saturday, February 20th, 9:00 am  – 4:30 pm
